Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist
Remote (GTA-based) · Full-time · Remote · Permanent · $80,000 - $90,000 CAD
HSE specialist owning the Ontario region for a material-handling and warehouse-automation provider. Rolling out safety initiatives, training technicians and leading safety talks - a practitioner role, not an administrative one. Remote, but GTA-based to attend the Mississauga office a few times a month.
A Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist role covering the Central region - Ontario - for a material-handling, storage and warehouse-automation provider. You would join a team of three specialists reporting to the Director of Health, Safety & Environment, each owning their own region.
This is a hands-on practitioner role. You would spend your time rolling out safety initiatives, delivering training to technicians and leading safety talks - not maintaining a binder.
Schedule & location
Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Remote, but you must be GTA-based and able to attend the Mississauga head office roughly three to four times a month or as needed.
What you'll be doing
- Identify health and safety training needs, then develop, source and deliver the training - in person or virtually - Guide and support managers on safety programs, policies and procedures to ensure legislative compliance - Act as a resource for Joint Health and Safety Committees across the region - Support compliance with provincial environmental legislation, including waste and hazardous waste management and emergency response protocols - Administer WCB claims and coordinate with the third-party provider and management - Perform internal health and safety audits and gap analysis against applicable standards - Oversee the contractor management program - pre-qualification, monitoring and reporting - Assist with accident, incident and illness investigations and track corrective actions to closure - Monitor health and safety system performance and report against targets monthly
What we're looking for
- 3-5 years in a health and safety role - a practitioner, not solely an administrator - Strong communication skills; you will be training technicians and advising managers directly - Working knowledge of OHSA and provincial environmental regulations - OH&S diploma or certificate is a strong asset, but candidates who have worked their way up are welcome - CRSP or CRST designation is an asset - GTA-based, with a valid driver's licence
Multi-site experience is not required, and the employer is open to most industries - blue-collar environments such as warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, construction or transportation are ideal.
